Pop Art design of the ‘hurley’ inspired by legendary artist ‘Andy Warhol’. Hurling is one Ireland’s national sports and indigenous to the country. The ‘sliotar’ (the ball) is controlled by the ‘hurley’ which is sculpted from the ash tree. To anyone who has not seen this game before, the hurley can resemble a large wooden spoon as was described to me in the past 😊

You only have one head so you need to protect it playing hurling….accidents can happen and the helmet protects players against blows to the head, face and temple. Helmets come in many different colours and the colour a player picks when starting to play hurling from a young age is probably the colour they will use for their entire playing career. With this illustration, I wanted to depict this detail.
